I want to set down on paper my family. Before I forget or am made to forget. Life is changing now and I don’t know what names I will be permitted but Friend said I could have anything that I could put in this book. He only asked that I not include names of those that could be harmed by this. Divinity and the Goodwife told me their names are mine to write if I so choose. However the children that travel with me are not mine to ruin. While Friend told me his name, it is not mine to write here. But my family is already dead. I can do them no more harm.

My mother was Traaer RunningDeer. Her name meant Tree Song. She was beautiful. She had the voice of one born to the Heavens. She was so delicate but had such force running through her veins. She was a cleric and a healer of renown.

My father was Thorail SilverWolf. His name meant Truth Hunter. He was as dark as my mother was fair. He was strong of feature and had great abilities with the bow. He was an archer and ranger.

My brother was Tharail RunningDeer. His name meant Vigilant Hunter. He had my father’s dark hair but my mother’s green eyes. He was still training with my father. He was 15 years older than me. He had just crossed into adulthood. He was my world outside of my mother.

I was born Baelwren RunningDeer in the Year of the Sun 1211, Fidelity 20
I have the same coloring as my mother. I’m not as delicate in body but was blessed with some of her grace. I believed my name meant Guardian of Binding. I found out recently that the dialect is older then I realized. My name means Arcane Guardian. My mother said she dreamt my name. She said it was a gift from the earth spirits she worshipped. I wish she had known it was the curse that was to be our family’s doom.

I have kept the first name that was our doom but left the pureness of my mother’s name behind. I begin this new life washed clean. Perhaps one day I will write my rebirth in this book as well.

We lived as a family group within a larger community. Dwelling in our group were also some of my other relatives. I mourn their loss as well. I write now all that were in my life.

;Yaquenyn RunningDeer: my Grandmother. Her name meant Path of the Forgotten Ritual. She always seemed like she knew something we all did not. She was serene in her beauty. My mother got her coloring from her. There was a mystery to where her people came from. I wish she had told me.

;Halanna FallenOak: my cousin. She was my uncle’s child. Her name meant Free Daughter. She got Grandmother’s gold hair but the blue eyes of her mother’s people.

;Amanes FallenOak: my uncle’s wife. Her name meant Beautiful Heart. She was very gentle, frail almost. She tended the herb garden and taught me their uses with my mother at our side.

;Thovain RunningDeer: my uncle. His name meant True Spirit. He looked exactly like my mother. They were twins. He always seemed strong and indestructible.
