Return[edit]
Mehana's constellation reappeared in the sky the day of the return of the Temple at Mt. Daneasus. The Companions of the Rising Sun believe that she was hiding out of time, in the form of her Avatar, Aurora the Insightful.
Practice[edit]
Mehana has more worshipers who are wizards than clerics, including in positions of authority within the Church and the political structure of the Jade Imperium. That said, those who span the breach - who are both clerics and wizards, and most of all Mystic Theurges, are held in a special place of honor.
Worship of Mehana is worship of knowledge, and the power and personal enlightenment that the quest for knowledge brings. There are few liturgical services, usually occurring prior to the times of power, or in preparation for or response to the discovery of a new spell, magic place, or bit of arcane knowledge.
Orders[edit]
See Organizations of the Jade Imperium for more information.
Holidays[edit]
Prior to the flight of the Jade Tower, when the mages fled from persecution by hiding out of time, the Church of Mehana did not have specific holidays. There were, of course, days of particular power: the equinoxes and the solstices, nights of the full moon and new moon, and so on, which were celebrated as times of learning and power.
With the Fall of the Tower, and the sacrifice of the 51 and the Host of Yanseldra (detailed in An Alternate History - The Scarlet War), and also the sacrifices of the Companions of the Rising Sun to restore the Tower, there are now some specific holidays dedicated to remembering and honoring these events.
Aetas[edit]
A 23 day period, stretching from the 23rd of Freedom to the 14th of Harmony, this holy period commemorates the time the Companions spent in the Tower, learning to use the Spellpool and preparing for the ritual that would bring back the Holy Temple, and the personal sacrifices they made to do so. Observance of this holiday requires the giving up of some vice or habit, and spending some time each day in study of magic, divinity, or lore.
Licentia[edit]
The culmination of Aetas, this holiday is held on the 15th of Harmony, and celebrates the culmination of the Companion's efforts to restore the Tower to its former glory. Usually celebrated by music, fireworks, and displays of magical prowess. The fireworks arranged at the Jade Tower can be seen throughout the world, just as the light from the Tower can be.
Sacrifice[edit]
Held every year for the last five years on 12 Remembrance, this commemorates the day the Jade Tower fell to the forces of Pelor, and the sacrifices that were made by The 51 and the Host of Yanseldra. Observation of this holiday requires the sacrifice of something personal and valuable, like a magic item or personal treasure. These items are sold or otherwise used to fund the Division of the Wardens of the Tower involved in finding children of potential mystical power, particularly those with the Sight.
Measurement of Time[edit]
Mehana's Church measures time from the creation of the Jade Tower itself, more than 4000 years ago. The Year of the Sun 1372 equates to the year 4459 E.J.T. Note that this is absolute time, discounting both the time the Master Wizards spent in the Holy Temple, and also the few years lost in the Shadow Era.
