Until recently, the College of Mages was believed crushed beyond recovery as a result of the Scarlet War. Although a few mages occasionally cropped up after that point, it seemed that the great days of Arcane magic were gone.

The Jade Tower stood vacant, filled only with forgotten dreams of power and glory - and, of course, relics of their days in the sun.

However, recent events indicate that the College of Mages was not, in fact, destroyed, and that they have reclaimed their tower.

Mage of the Arcane Order

Once the leaders of the College of Mages were members of this class, but fell from power at the end of the Scarlet War. In their heyday, they had the ability to tap into a giant reserve of mystic power.

The Arcane Order, also known as the College of Mages, was believed irrevocably destroyed with the execution of Davilan the Scribe. See the Historical Timeline for more details. As of 15 Harmony, 1338, this no longer appears to be the case.
The Jade Tower, headquarters for the Arcane Order, is also the storage place for the Spellpool, a reserve of mystic energy that the Mages can apparently tap at will. It was emptied when the Mages caused the Holy Temple at Mt. Daneasus to disappear, moved forward in time some 300 years.
