Once a race with a strong mystical bent, the elves turned their back on their mystical power sometime before the Scarlet War. Though they have always attempted to live in harmony with nature, it has now become something of an obsession with most elves. There are some, though, who choose to turn their backs on the natural world, and instead live as city dwellers and merchants.
Elves are available as player characters as described in the Player's Handbook, with the exception that their favored class is ranger. Elven lifespans have also been falling off in the last few centuries, such that many elves are not living to see their 200th birthday.
