The Hallowed Hills

From Jade Tower

Growing bored of Corvis, the party set out to the west. Hooking up with a caravan headed in the same direction, they met an itinerant swordsman who called himself Karmann. Quick of wit and daring with drink, his company was quite welcome, though it became apparent that he had been offered a one-way ticket out of Corvis as an alternative to a more unpleasant sentence.

Shortly after leaving the city, however, they noticed signs of a recent earthquake, and were visited by strange dreams. The companions, now numbering four, investigated the area for anyone who might have been hurt during the earthquake, and came across a small chapel and school, which had been damaged in the quake.

The elderly cleric reported that his assistant was missing, after investigating a fissure in the earth that had appeared with the quake. He asked the party to investigate. It turned out that the fissure led directly to an old series of caverns and catacombs.

After fighting assorted subterranean monsters (stirges, shrieking fungi, etc), they encountered some orcs, who told them of a demon lurking in the shadows. They then found the priest, and shortly discovered that, in fact, he was the demon in the shadows - he had been turned into vampire spawn by someone named Simone Delcius. They destroyed him with great regret, and surfaced to bring the bad news to the cleric.

They stayed with the old man and his alcolytes for several weeks, leading prayers and repairing the chapel, while a replacement priest was being sent. Also sent to further investigate the caves was a detachment of the Order of the Light of ORB - the Hunters of the Dead. The party, in awe of the powerful team, left the work to them, and returned to Corvis to regroup. Karmann was allowed to return, so long as Kimo and Jericho, both men of the cloth, vouched for him.
