Until very recently, the world of Crescent lacked any stars in the sky. The primary reference point for navigators has long been the Spire, visible as a sliver of white light on the horizon from anywhere on the continent of Crescent, and for a great distance out to sea. Its apparent height above the horizon corresponded to the distance from the Spire.

In days of old, it was joined in the sky by the Jade Tower and the Lighthouse at Windy Point (green and red, respectively). Measuring the apparent distance between the three slivers of light, and their various heights, made it possible to pinpoint with a great deal of exactness one's location on Crescent.

With the fall of the College of Mages, both the green and the red were extinguished. Recently, the Jade Tower once again appeared on the horizon, an event which coincided with the return of the Holy Temple at Mt. Daneasus to current time and the reemergence of stars in the sky.
