Devoted Defender
STILL BEING EDITED
The top of the field when it comes to personal bodyguards.
Members of the Order of the Sword of Malicean may freely multi-class as Devoted Defenders, provided they are protecting people assigned to them by the Elders of the Church. If they choose to use this class to protect people on a freelance basis, they lose their paladin class benefits just as though they multi-classed into a forbidden class.

- Spells
- Beginning at 1st level, an righteous duelist gains the ability to cast a number of divine spells. To cast a spell, an righteous duelist must have a Charisma score of at least 10 + the spell’s level, so an righteous duelist with a Charisma of 10 or lower cannot cast these spells. Righteous righteous duelist bonus spells are based on Charisma, and saving throws against these spells have a DC of 10 + spell level + the righteous duelist’s Charisma bonus. When the righteous duelist gets 0 spells per day of a given spell level he gains only the bonus spells he would be entitled to based on his Charisma score for that spell level.
- The righteous duelist’s spell list appears below. An righteous duelist casts spells just as a bard does.
- Upon reaching 6th level, at every even-numbered level after that (8th and 10th), an righteous duelist can choose to learn a new spell in place of one he already knows. The new spell’s level must be the same as that of the spell being exchanged, and it must be at least two levels lower than the highest-level righteous duelist spell the righteous duelist can cast. An righteous duelist may swap only a single spell at any given level, and must choose whether or not to swap the spell at the same time that he gains new spells known for that level.
- Enhanced Mobility (Ex)
- When wearing no armor and not using a shield, a righteous duelist gains an additional +4 bonus to AC against attacks of opportunity caused when she moves out of a threatened square.
- Grace (Ex)
- At 4th level, a righteous duelist gains an additional +2 competence bonus on all Reflex saving throws. This ability functions for a righteous duelist only when she is wearing no armor and not using a shield.
- Precise Strike (Ex)
- At 5th level, a righteous duelist gains the ability to strike precisely with a light or one-handed piercing weapon, gaining an extra 1d6 damage added to her normal damage roll.
- When making a precise strike, a righteous duelist cannot attack with a weapon in her other hand or use a shield. A righteous duelist’s precise strike only works against living creatures with discernible anatomies. Any creature that is immune to critical hits is not vulnerable to a precise strike, and any item or ability that protects a creature from critical hits also protects a creature from a precise strike. At 10th level, the extra damage on a precise strike increases to +2d6.
- Acrobatic Charge (Ex)
- At 6th level, a righteous duelist gains the ability to charge in situations where others cannot. She may charge over difficult terrain that normally slows movement. Depending on the circumstance, she may still need to make appropriate checks to successfully move over the terrain.
- Elaborate Parry (Ex)
- At 7th level and higher, if a righteous duelist chooses to fight defensively or use total defense in melee combat, she gains an additional +1 dodge bonus to AC for each level of righteous duelist she has. The righteous duelist must be using a a light or one-handed piercing weapon to benefit from this ability.
- Deflect Arrows
- At 9th level, a righteous duelist gains the benefit of the Deflect Arrows feat when using a light or one-handed piercing weapon.
