Aerdane is the somewhat reckless and impulsive Captain of the Jade Imperium Airship Thunderhead (Mark III), the flagship of the Jade Imperium's Airborne Navy.
He's also a mechanomagical genius, whose prototype airship (the Thunderhead Mark I) was the first proven practical application of Airsteel.
