For thousands of years, the legends say, Crescent was torn by war between the races. Alliances were made, and then broken, treachery and deceit were rife, and the people dreamed of a time when there would be no more bloodshed.
That time, some say, is now.
It began over 1300 years ago, as men count years, with a small and humble temple on an island in the Sae duChaad. Preaching a doctrine of hard work and humility, the Church of the Sun and the Moon was really nothing more than a refugee camp for the war-weary of all races.
Then rose a prophet, a half-elven paladin who spoke of a time of peace and tranquility, when the five races would come together in peace and light, and be as one. He preached of harmony and justice, peace dictated by a rigid code of ethics and enforced by the sword of righteousness. His name was Malicean.
Under the sway of Malicean, the Church began its meteoric rise to power, riding on a tide of religious fervor and glorious promises. The Chaste, as he is also known, proved to have more gifts than just oration, possessing great knowledge of both strategy and diplomacy. Expanding from their island temple, the Sun and Moon rapidly brought order to the continent of Crescent. Over the opposition of numerous local warlords, the Father Church, with its legions of paladins, monks and cleric-warriors, soon became the dominant force on the continent. Less than fifty years after their humble beginnings, the Council of Five, a ruling body composed one member of each race, held sway over the whole land.
A new threat is now looming its head over the land of Crescent. The dead, once content to sleep the dreamless sleep of death, now walk the shadows. Arcane magic, a sin thought eradicated centuries ago, once again rears its head to threaten the lasting peace of the Sun and Moon. And, perhaps the biggest threat of all, strife within the halls of the Spire itself where once fellowship and brotherhood ruled the continent of Light.
